Web Hosting

Web hosting where the updates are somebody else's job

Business websites and WordPress, hosted in the UK and actively looked after — patched, backed up, monitored and defended, rather than simply switched on and forgotten.

The honest version

Most “web hosting” is just disk space

The cheap plans are cheap because nobody is doing anything. You get storage, a control panel and a support form. When the plugin update breaks checkout, or the site starts serving pharmaceutical spam to Google, that is your afternoon gone.

We price on the assumption that somebody has to do the work, and then we do it. Updates, backups with tested restores, certificate renewals, malware scanning and uptime monitoring are part of the service rather than an upsell.

The measure of good hosting is how rarely you have to think about it.

Included on every site

  • Managed core, plugin and theme updates
  • Daily off-site backups with restores we actually test
  • TLS certificates issued and renewed automatically
  • Web application firewall and malware scanning
  • Uptime, certificate and performance monitoring
  • Staging environment for testing changes
  • SFTP, SSH and Git deployment for your developer
  • Free migration from your current host

Good fit

Who this is for

We are a decent fit for organisations where the website matters commercially but nobody in the building wants to be the person who administers it.

Businesses with a brochure site that earns its keep

It generates enquiries, it represents you, and it needs to be up and fast — but it does not need a dedicated team.

Agencies who would rather not be a hosting company

We host your clients’ sites under your relationship. You keep the client; we take the 6pm phone calls.

WordPress estates that have grown organically

Half a dozen sites, several developers over the years, nobody entirely sure what is where. We audit, consolidate and take it on.

Under the bonnet

What the platform actually runs

Nothing exotic. Well-understood components, kept current, configured by people who have had to fix them at 2am.

Web server
NGINX with HTTP/2 and Brotli compression, tuned per site rather than left at defaults.
PHP
Current supported PHP releases, with OPcache and per-site pools so one busy site cannot starve another.
Database
MySQL or MariaDB with slow-query logging, so performance problems get found rather than guessed at.
Caching
Server-side page and object caching, plus a CDN in front where it earns its place.
Backups
Daily off-site snapshots with defined retention, and restores tested on a schedule.
Security
WAF, malware scanning, brute-force protection and locked-down file permissions as standard.
Monitoring
Uptime, TLS expiry, disk, and response-time checks around the clock, alerting a human rota.
Email
We keep hosting and email separate on purpose — your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace stays where it is.

FAQs

Web hosting questions

Yes, and it is the majority of what we run. Core, plugin and theme updates are applied by us on a schedule, staged first where a site is business-critical. If an update breaks something, rolling back is our problem rather than yours.

We take it offline or into maintenance mode, restore from a known-good backup, work out how they got in, and close it. That work is included — we do not treat a compromise as a billable incident on a managed plan.

Yes. SFTP, SSH and Git-based deployment are all available, along with staging environments. We manage the platform; we do not insist on being the only people allowed to touch the site.

No. TLS certificates are issued, installed and renewed automatically on every site we host, including subdomains. Certificate expiry is monitored, so a renewal failure raises an alert rather than a customer complaint.

If you are running something with unusual scaling behaviour, a bespoke application, or heavy background processing, our application hosting or a dedicated server is a better fit. We will tell you that rather than sell you the wrong thing.

Send us the site, we'll tell you what we'd change

Give us a URL and we will come back with an honest assessment — what is slow, what is exposed, and whether moving is actually worth your while.
